Arizona Wildcats Championship Odds Tumble
It was a difficult weekend for the Wildcats. Losing to Oregon State wasn’t good, but they still share a portion of the Pac-12 Conference lead with Oregon.
The good thing for Arizona is they bounced back with a nine-point away victory Sunday against a tough Oregon program. That’s a good thing, but the Wildcats did fall from the AP Top 10, and their natty odds tumbled from +1100 to sixth on the board at +1400 as a result.
Still, the Wildcats are the only team from the Pac-12 to be ranked in the top 25, and after watching them regroup against a good Oregon program on Saturday, they should win the conference.
Is Arizona a good bet to win the national championship?
I don’t think the Arizona Wildcats are a bad bet to win a natty, but there are some concerns we should consider before placing any bet on Arizona.
Bracket Matrix currently projects Arizona as a No. 2 seed, and that’s fine. They are 6-3 in Quad 1 games, with some nice away victories over Duke and Oregon. The problem with Arizona is they lose basketball games to lousy teams like Oregon State and could be prone to an early-round upset.
A team like Arizona should be undefeated in Quad 2, Quad 3, and Quad 4 games, but the Wildcats aren’t. They are 2-1 in Quad 2 matchups, 3-1 in Quad 3 matchups, and 4-0 in Quad 4 tilts, making betting on Arizona an interesting proposition.
Their inability to beat teams like Washington State, Stanford, and Oregon State that won’t likely qualify for the NCAA Tournament, and Arizona lost to all three of those teams this season.
They’ve been inconsistent on both ends of the floor, and a bad night like the one leading scorer Caleb Love had against Oregon State could lead to an upset. +1400 isn’t a good enough bargain for me to trust Arizona.
