Arizona vs. Duke Best Bet
This should be a fascinating contest between two nationally ranked teams with national championship aspirations. Both teams are 1-0, and each team covered huge spreads, with the games exceeding the bookmakers’ total.
Arizona plays at a lightning-fast tempo, while Duke played a little below average against Dartmouth. That puts the total firmly in play here, and instead of worrying about who will win by how many points, we’ll take a shot at Over 152.5 (-110) at DraftKings.
It’s difficult to determine just how good each team is. Both squads opened their season against lesser competition and essentially did whatever they wanted to do, but that won’t be the case on Friday night.
We shouldn’t expect the Wildcats to shoot 60% or Duke to shoot 70% as they did in their season openers against inferior competition. We should see a competitive, fast-paced game between two schools with plenty of young fellas who can pass, shoot, and score, and maybe defense takes a back seat with the game being televised on ESPN2.
Arizona lost four starters from last season’s squad, but they have a good group of returning players and a solid recruiting class, including Caleb Love. That has the fast and loose-playing Wildcats believing they can win it all.
Duke returned four starters, and they are the more experienced group of the two. Forward Mark Mitchell was a late scratch for the season opener, but the Blue Devils are loaded, and Kyle Filipowski looked like the National Player of the Year against Dartmouth.
Finally, the Over 152.5 (-110) at DraftKings is my best bet for this matchup. The tempo is right for a high-scoring affair; these squads have talented offensive players who will be difficult to stop. Both groups have a high free-throw rate and good shooters inside and outside the arc.
My Best Bet: Over 152.5 (-110) at DraftKings.
