The Sun Devils are +12000 to win the Pac-12 championship, but they have a new coaching staff and hope to return the program to national prominence.
Introducing 1st Year Head Coach Kenny Dillingham
First-year head coach Kenny Dillingham has been brought in to replace Herm Edwards. Edwards was 26-20 with three bowl appearances over his 4.25 season tenure.
Dillingham had no prior head coaching up until this season but served as Offensive Coordinator at Oregon, Florida State, Auburn, and Memphis. Beau Baldwin has been named as the offensive coordinator, and Brian Ward will be in charge of the Sun Devils defense.

2023 Arizona State Sun Devils Offense
Five starters return from an offense that struggled in 2022. Dillingham used the transfer portal to restock an offensive pantry decimated by several players leaving the program either by graduation or the transfer portal.
There could be a battle between last season’s starting QB Trenton Bourguet and Notre Dame transfer Drew Pyne but either way, ASU should be good at QB. Key returnees include;
- WR Elijah Badger
- WR Giovanni Sanders
- LT Isaia Glass
- RT Emmit Bohle
- TE Messiah Swinson
Badger and TE Jalin Conyers should be the main focal point of the passing game while Sanders returns from a 500-yard receiving season catching balls in the slot.
The running game should be okay, with Sacramento State transfer Cameron Skattebo handling most of the rushing chores. They’ll run behind an inexperienced offensive line that hasn’t been together very long and could be a work in progress this season.
2023 Arizona State Sun Devils Defense
The Sun Devils return five from a defense that last season finished seventh in the PAC-12 in total yards allowed. Key members from last season include:
- DT Anthonie Cooper
- CB Ro Torrence
- CB Ed Woods
- CB Jordan Clark
- S Chris Edmunds
The defensive backfield should be the strength of this defense. Ro Torrence and Jordan Clark are the best in the conference, and the defensive line could wind up being pretty good.
Oklahoma transfer Clayton Smith and Texas transfer Prince Dorbah are projected to be strong candidates for all-conference honors.

Arizona State Sun Devils Betting Analysis
DraftKings has a few future wagers for the ASU Sun Devils, and we’ll look at each market.
Can the 2023 Arizona State Sun Devils Win the 2023 BCS NCAA Championship?
No, the Arizona State Sun Devils can’t win the 2023 BCS National Championship.
ASU is rebuilding with a new staff and many new faces on this team. They don’t have the experience, and their schedule is one of the strongest in the nation.
Can the 2023 Arizona State Sun Devils Win the Pac-12 Championship?
No, the 2023 Arizona State Sun Devils won’t win the Pac-12 Championship.
The Pac-12 is loaded and has games this season against five of the top six projected schools in the conference.
The offense will take time to develop, and the defense might keep ASU in games but could get overwhelmed late in games if the offense can’t stay on the field long enough to give its defense some rest.
Can the 2023 Arizona State Sun Devils Win More than Five Games?
No, the 2023 Arizona State Sun Devils won’t win more than five games this season.
ASU opens the season with four consecutive home games, but of those four, they will have real trouble against Oklahoma State and USC, which gives the Sun Devils a 2-2 record through the first four, then it gets dicey.
The Sun Devils’ away schedule is brutal–they face California, Washington, Utah, and UCLA away from Frank Kush Field, which will likely be losses. That leaves ASU with a 2-6 record through the first four non-conference and away-conference schedules.
Arizona State has winnable Pac-12 home contests against Colorado, Washington State, and Oregon. Still, they end the season at home against in-state rival Arizona, which will likely be a loss.
That leaves Arizona State with a 5-7 projected record, and I do not see a way for the Sun Devils to win Over five games (+135). That being said, the Under-five wins is -160, which is a lot of juice to pay for an NCAAF future wager. I’m leaving the win total alone, but if you have $160 and can afford to wait until December to get paid, Arizona State Under five wins, -160 at DraftKings is your best bet.
